TanosBooks Publishing in Coffeeville, Kansas, has published Peg Nichols’s book I Kneeded It, a collection of 56 poems Peg wrote while recovering from knee surgery. The March issue of The Best Times, a monthly publication of the Johnson County Department of Human Services and Aging, included a feature about Peg and I Kneeded It, which included the book’s introduction and eight of the poems.

Peg Nichols’s book, Mediation Survivor’s Handbook, received a four-star review in the Atlantic Book Review and is the winner of the Arizona Author’s Association and Midwest Independent Publishers Association awards.

Lisa Harkrader will speak on a children’s book panel at Borders Books at 119th and Metcalf from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, 2008. Afterward, she will conduct a dialogue workshop in the store’s espresso bar with the Kansas City Writers Meetup.

The Kansas Center for the Book has chosen The Virgin of Small Plains, Nancy Pickard’s acclaimed mystery as its 2009 Kansas Reads novel. The book has garnered many honors, including the Agatha, Macavity, and Reader’s Choice Awards. It is also a Kansas Notable Book and a finalist for the Edgar and Dilys Awards.

L.D. Harkrader will be a speaker at the Kansas SCBWI workshop, “Taking Care of Business: Marketing and Promotion,” in Overland Park on Saturday, March 15, 2008, and at the Young Writers’ Conference in Emporia on Saturday, April 19, 2008.

The paperback version of L.D. (Lisa) Harkrader’s middle-grade novel, Airball: My Life in Briefs, will be released March 4, 2008. Her young adult mystery, Afterlife: A Sophie Ryan Psychic Thriller, will be released in May 2009.

Lisa Harkrader, Esther Luttrell, and Mark Bouton will participate in a panel discussion, “Demystifying the Mystery of Writing a Mystery,” then sign books on Saturday, March 1, 2008, from 2 to 4 p.m. at Barnes & Noble, 17th and Wanamaker, Topeka, Kansas.

It’s “Wine, Brie, and Mystery” at I Love a Mystery bookstore on Thursday, January 17, 2008, at 7 p.m. to launch Suella and Larry Walsh’s new adult mystery, The Last O’Neil. Check out the Walshes’ updated web site at www.walshwritingservices.com.

Former Partners in Crime President Denise Godwin returned to the States from Spain for the holidays and attended the Partners in Crime dinner at Cinzetti’s on December 12. It was good to visit with her and to hear about the missionary work Denise is doing with her husband Kerry. Denise and Kerry plan on continuing their work as Christian filmmakers in Spain for another year before they return to the states for a year to tell others about their work and to gather funds for another three years. Juliet Kincaid’s daughter, Jessica Kincaid, former Partners in Crime secretary, received a Charlotte Street Award this year for her artwork. Five of Jessica’s pieces will continue on display at Grand Arts Gallery, 1819 Grand Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri 64108, from January 2 through January 19. Jill Churchill’s latest Jane Jeffry mystery, The Accidental Florist, is now out in paperback.

Lawrence and Suella Walsh’s newest mystery, The Last O’Neil, written under the name L.S. Walsh and featuring amateur sleuth Shannon O’Neil solving the mystery behind her aunt’s death in Missouri’s wine country, will be released in November. They are holding a launch party to celebrate its release:

Lisa Harkrader will appear on a panel called “LOL: Funny Fiction” with J.B. Cheaney and Justin Matott at the Kansas Book Festival in Wichita on Friday, October 5. The two-day festival takes place at Koch Arena on the campus of Wichita State University. The “Funny Fiction” panel runs from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. in the Tween Time Tent. Lisa will sign books afterward, from 11 to 11:30 a.m. at the Town Crier Bookstore booth.

Warren Bull and Juliet Kincaid have been invited to appear on a panel, along with conference toastmaster Will Thomas, about writing historical mystery fiction at the Great Manhattan Mystery Conclave on September 29, 2007, in Manhattan, Kansas.

Lisa Harkrader, Kansas Notable Writer, will appear on the panel called “From Cooking to Basketry to Basketball: Weaving Passions into Plots” with Diane Mott Davidson and Beth Groundwater at the Great Manhattan Mystery Conclave on September 29 also.

Warren Bull has a story called “Daily Double” appearing in crimeandsuspense.com in August.
